Their Navien tankless water heater was sharing a circuit it had no business being on, and every time it fired up, it caused problems. No hot water, and a trip down to reset the breaker. Here's the thing about tankless water heaters - they draw a serious amount of power on demand. They need their own dedicated circuit, period. When they're lumped onto a shared circuit, nuisance tripping is the best-case scenario. The worst case is a safety hazard. So we came out, ran a dedicated circuit specifically for this unit, and installed a proper GFCI receptacle right next to the unit to bring everything up to code.
The GFCI protection piece matters more than most people realize. Tankless heaters live in basements and utility spaces - areas where moisture is always a factor. A GFCI receptacle is required by code in those locations for exactly that reason. It monitors for any imbalance in current and cuts power instantly if something goes wrong.
