Panel Rework and Surge Protection Done the Right Way

Sometimes a simple add-on job turns into something bigger - and that's not a bad thing. This panel needed surge protection, but the original setup wasn't going to allow for a clean, safe install. Rather than force it and move on, we did it right.

Here's what we were working with: a sub-panel that wasn't properly mounted, wiring that was crowded and hard to work around, and no clean path to add surge protection without addressing the underlying issues first. Skipping those steps and just slapping a device on would have been the easy call. It's not the right one.

So we reworked it. We mounted the panel properly on a backboard to give it a solid, stable foundation. That alone makes a real difference - a panel that isn't secured correctly is a problem waiting to happen. Once that was sorted, we had a clean starting point to work from.

From there, we got the whole-home surge protection device installed correctly. The green status light on the Schneider surge protector is active and confirming the system is live and working. That little indicator matters - it tells you at a glance that your equipment is actually protected. TVs, appliances, HVAC systems - a single power surge can wipe out thousands of dollars worth of gear. Whole-home surge protection is one of the smartest upgrades you can make for what it costs.

The finished setup is solid, safe, and built to last. A bit of extra work upfront means you're not dealing with a much bigger headache down the road. That's just how we approach every job - whether it's a panel upgrade, surge protection, or anything in between.
